Brave Woman, Be Free.

let your hair down from its braiding binds,
loose each strand from its knots and ties
comb out the tangles and undo the bows
let it fall in your face for to tickle your nose
put on your long skirts and twirl them around
take off your heeled shoes and dig your feet into ground
dive deep into life, take flight heart and soul
run fast from your slavery, let go of control
coax from the slip of your mouth a long, sultry kiss
a smile of pure passion, laugh with unabridged bliss
and remember what it's like to run, fast and true
to fly with the birds through sweet morning dew
yes, with wind to your back, from your head to your toes
and let yourself love as only God knows.

Brave woman be free, have grace for the past
let it unveil the lies that are holding you back
do what you must do and say what you will
but you'll never be free of this earth's words until
you awake from gray sorrow as to quiet your sighs,
love the curve of your hip and the breadth of your thighs
choose your words wisely, but speak loud and clear
God gave you such words that the world needs to hear
for the brute strength of a man may move and shake walls
but the words of a woman can shake hearts and souls
brave woman, be free, and let naught of this world keep you still
for God will move and be moved by the truth you reveal.

About Me

My photo
I am a tug of war between head and heart, a mess of body and soul. My greatest fear is my only hope, for it is not a man with beginning or end, but something much greater and wilder than anything of flesh and bone. I am a woman of simple words, wild love, and no apologies for either. © Ashley Burrough 2013. All Rights Reserved.
